Colby Day

IT Network

Colby is a quiet workhorse that relentlessly drives the mission of BYU on the front lines. As a network installation technician, Colby is a direct supervisor to many of the student installers and student leads in Network Installation. He lives the gospel of Jesus Christ and is contagious in how he shares it with those around him. Colby keeps regular contact with many of the students who have worked with him – even years after they graduate, he is still a trusted source of advice and counsel. When the CES Network Center was formed, it was apparent that one of the remote employees was vastly undertrained in his job responsibilities, but was afraid to expose this to his supervisor. Colby became a very safe mentor for him to ask questions and learn his trade better. Having Colby spend a week training with him led to amazing improvements across the board, and all were edified together.

Colby is a master of his craft, and an amazing catalyst for good. He fosters respect and belonging for all individuals. By creating this safe environment and strong sense of teamwork, he leads as the Savior would. On one of the trips to work on the BYU Hawaii campus, a student there invited the group to play volleyball with them on Thursday night. Because of the time difference, most politely declined and went back to the hotel to go to bed. Colby went with the students and played volleyball late into the night. The next morning, he was up and ready to start work at 7:00am, despite the late night and time difference. His closeness to the students on our team, and to many others at the university, has opened doors where they trust him and want to work with him. This allows him to teach and strengthen them not only in their jobs, but also in their lives. Colby is contagiously good.
