Lisa is responsible for the creation of BYU's Sexual Assault Survivor Advocacy Services (SASAS). In the six years since the creation of this office, Lisa has worked tirelessly to ensure that those who have experienced sexual assault are cared for. Lisa meets in a counseling capacity with these survivors, providing education and resources as they heal from the assault they experienced.
Lisa oversees all administrative functioning of the office and develops outreach programming to raise awareness of sexual assault as a campus concern. She has worked to expand the SASAS office, adding more providers and increasing the outreach footprint as well.
Perhaps most impressive is Lisa's commitment to be available for survivors whenever they need it. Being available has often entailed meeting with survivors after hours, accompanying them to other campus or community organizations, and advocating for their wellbeing in a complex system. In doing so Lisa has exemplified service and added unique value to BYU in ensuring student success.
Lisa has built a team within SASAS that includes students and other admin employees. She effectively trains her team and is willing to pilot new ways to serve and ensure that BYU students have access to the latest services.
Lisa is the foremost expert on sexual assault on campus. She is well-versed in trauma recovery and engages in much continuing education to stay on the forefront of the field. Her role involves building relationships with survivors who often have little trust in others or in the university’s system. Lisa establishes effective rapport and is overwhelmingly valued by those she helps. She is sensitive to the students she serves and adheres to the strictest ethical standards of confidentiality.
