Fred A. Schwendiman Performance Award

The Fred A. Schwendiman Performance Award is presented to one full-time staff employee with at least five years of service. This award recognizes individuals for their overall contribution and commitment to the mission and aims of the university
- $5,000 (after taxes),
- Award recognition by recipient's department and the Staff Advisory Council,
- Recognition during University Conference,
- An invitation to the President's Appreciation Banquet, and
- The recipient's name will be added to the Schwendiman award plaque in the ASB.

Fred A. Schwendiman (1919-2004), former Support Services vice president of BYU, served as an administrator for both BYU and the LDS Church for more than 30 years. He oversaw the planning, construction, and maintenance of the 380 buildings on campus. For 22 years, he managed Physical Services at the Missionary Training Center, and he played a major role in the building of the Provo Temple. After his retirement from BYU, he resided in Jerusalem, where he was project director for the construction of the BYU Jerusalem Center for Near Eastern Studies. His motto was, "There's a way to get things done; just find it."
