College of Physical & Mathematical Sciences

Fred A. Schwendiman Performance Award Nomination Letter

Lonette Stoddard does extraordinary work as the secretary for the Department of Mathematics. Among many other responsibilities, she assists the department chair and associate chairs with the course scheduling and hiring processes, and trains and supervises student secretaries and other student employees. She plays a major role in helping the department run smoothly; she knows the answer to just about every question, as she began working for the department in 1984.

Department members have said the following about Lonette:

“Whenever I need a job performed or an answer to a question, her responses are almost immediate. She is a wealth of knowledge.”

“Lonette has a way of making each person feel like you are her sole best friend. She can always come up with something special and unique about anybody.”

“Without exaggeration, she verges on being irreplaceable. She remembers names and faces even from years ago. Everyone loves Lonette! She makes sure that things get done and done well.”

“As hiring chair, I was amazed to find out just how much Lonette did behind the scenes to help BYU’s complicated hiring process go smoothly for us.”

“In addition to her job duties, Lonette takes it on herself to personally reach out to others, including writing letters to students on missions and checking in on retired faculty members. We are fortunate to have her.”
