Victor Losser

Residence Life

President's Appreciation Award Nomination Letter

Vic Losser is the extraordinary manager of Student Family Housing and exemplifies all that is good with BYU. Managing both Wymount Terrace and the family side of Wyview Park, he directs operations, coordinates managers, resolves complaints, and ensures the financial integrity of BYU family housing. His job resembles managing a small city, which includes 1,060 apartments, 18 parks, 14 community aide couples, and 2 offices. From compassionately negotiating the issues of residents with diverse backgrounds to capably managing facilities and budgets, he cares deeply about family housing residents and providing them with a good home.

Vic’s enthusiasm for helping people sets him apart, and he always puts people first. Whether inspecting roofs for replacement, coordinating with project managers for road, landscaping, and facility updates, or working with tenants one-on-one to resolve their concerns, he values people and works to meet their needs. In an effort to understand, he listens well, gathers information, seeks input, and consequently, makes wise and informed decisions that are sustainable through time and multiple circumstances. Because Vic is gifted at connecting with people, putting them at ease, and is exceptionally diplomatic, he is a trusted asset.

One community aid shared, “Working with Vic, I saw his great love for the families. From passing out balloons to kids to spending extra hours after work to make sure a family was taken care of, he always did what he could to help BYU be a safe and enjoyable place to live. He was a delight to work with because he was so willing to listen, collaborate, and was so good at finding a perfect balance between empathy and following the guidelines.”

One example of Vic’s exceptional teamwork skills is coordinating flooring replacement as tenants move out. Vic carefully tracks apartments and communicates regularly with everyone involved to keep the project moving forward. Jason Thomas, flooring installation manager, said of Vic’s teamwork skills, “The first thing that I can say about Vic is that he is compassionate and caring for both his tenants and the people that work for him. He is always easy to work with. I have always appreciated the respect he shows us, even if it is a difficult situation that we might have caused!” Despite challenges that arise during projects, Vic maintains a feeling of teamwork and respect. Another flooring manager said of Vic that in the face of “extreme deadlines and difficult situations, he always has everyone’s interest in mind.”
